Molière, the Urban Opera

Molière l’Opéra Urbain is an innovative musical creation that brings together a variety of talents on stage, from singers to slammers, rappers, dancers, actors and musicians, all in a set and costumes reminiscent of the 17th century.

This show recounts the life of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, better known as Molière. Despite pressure to follow in the footsteps of his father, an upholsterer to the King, Molière chose to pursue his passion for writing plays.

His success began in the autumn of 1658 when he found the protection of Philippe d’Orléans, nicknamed ‘Monsieur’. The high point came on 24 October of the same year, when Molière and his troupe performed before Louis XIV, Anne of Austria (Queen of France) and Cardinal Mazarin.

It was not until 1665, on 14 June to be precise, that Molière finally obtained the official support of King Louis XIV, marking a major milestone in his theatrical career.
